Emmy Awards (Los Angeles Area)

Best Arts Programming Emmy: "Borderlands," an hour-long 2016 Artbound episode aired on KCETLink. As co-producer, all the segments were based editorial content I assigned and developed as part of Artbound's online arts journalism platform. And I was a producer on the final segment with musician Rodrigo Amarante. I saw him in a small venue in L.A. and brought him by our studio to perform an intimate set.

Best Entertainment Programming Emmy: "Invisible Cities: An Opera for Headphones," an hour-long 2015 Artbound episode aired on KCETLink.

LA Press Club Awards

For writing:

First place, Industry/Arts Feature – Under 1,000 words: “Performance Artist Rafa Esparza is Fighting Invisibility, One Brick at a Time,” LA Press Club Entertainment Journalism Awards, 2017.

Judges’ comment: “'Performance Artist Rafa Esparza is Fighting Invisibility, One Brick at a Time'” by Drew Tewksbury is a gem of a compact portrait of the queer performance artist Rafa Esparza who uses both his body and unlikely materials like the mud of the L.A. River to make politically charged art that speaks about people and places too often ignored. Nicely portrayed."
